Ear tubes today...

Today we took Dylan to the University to get tubes put in his ears. Because he has had 7 ear infections since last April, the Odo doctor and his pediatrition thought this was in his best interest. We decided to go with Dr. Smith at the University because that was the Odo doctor that followed Dylan for his vocal chords and we were very comfortable with him and he is very conservative and will not do anything that just doesn't need to be done. So we took Dylan down there at 7:30 this morning, the surgery was at 8:30. It was a little sad because we couldn't feed him since midnight last night, he could only have 2 ounces of apple juice this morning at 5:30. He was a hungry man, and he doesn't favor juice much so it was a chore to get him to drink it but I think he figured out that was all he was getting and he drank it. So as you can see from the pictures the waiting room before surgery was very very nice and brand new. Dylan loved looking at the fish in the tank and just checking everything out in the very kid friendly room. It was a great way to pass the time for a hungry 18 month old!! So then we went back into a seperate room with Dylan, because we found out last week that he has a small staph infection just below his belly button that tested positive for MRSA, he had his own room today and was in isolation, just on the err side of caution even though he is not contagious. It was nice though to be with him until they took him away for the procedure. They told us once they took him away it would be 15 minutes and he would be back and finished with the surgery, and they were right on the dot. 15 minutes later they brought him back, they no more than wheeled him back into the room and he started screaming as he woke right up from the anesthesia. He cried for about 20 minutes as he was waking up, which is totally normal for the type of anesthesia they give. Then he took a 6 ounce bottle and just about 45 minutes later we were on our way home! Things went perfect, we were very relieved, and they don't need to re-check him for 6 months!!!!!

We also had 2 appointments last week at the University for his eye and developmental follow-up. The visits went great!!! His eyes had not really changed at all from his visit in November and he does not need glasses right now, they don't need to see him for another 6 months. And for Development, he is doing everything they want him to do except dropping a block into a cup, which he would just rather throw the block or chew on the cup then play with them together. So she was not concerned about that at all, she just needs to see him around his 2nd birthday for the last time!! He is getting very long and his weight is gaining but slowly. So she is having us "beef" up his Vitamin D milk a little with Carnation Instant Breakfast and add a little butter to his veggies and his yougart he eats needs to not be "low" sugar anymore. So we have just excepted that he needs more calories and a little butter and more syrup with his pancakes in the morning are fine for him.

So Dylan is doing absolutely wonderful. He is talking up a storm and just starting to let go of things when he is pulling to stand, just a matter of weeks and we are sure he will be walking everywhere!! We are very happy and encouraging Dylan more than ever. Brad is almost ready to get rid of the immobolizer on his leg, he starts Physical Therapy this week and has crutches for another 3 weeks, then hopefully his knee will be pretty much back to normal. He is going a little or a lot stir crazy and is ready to get outside!!

So things are great, little man is just looking like a toddler and a little boy now. As you can see some from the pictures, he has 9 and working on number 10 teeth. He loves to play with his puppy over and thru the gate, Dylan loves to put his face up to the netting on the gate and Skylar sits there and tried to give him big kisses! We are ready for Spring so we can get outside a bit and out of the house. We have been sheltered once again this winter and it has really paid off because Dylan, knock on wood, has been very healthy and just growing like crazy!~
