Halloween was very special for our family and Dylan this year. We were all home as a family and both kids were able to dress up and do some trick or treating!
Mommy took Dylan to the doctor bright and early Saturday morning. We noticed on Tuesday that Dylan had some drainage coming out of his right ear. This was a possibility our Odo doctor had told us after Dylan's followup in September. If he got drainage we were to start his ear drops and continue until the drainage stopped. Well unfortunately the drainage got worse and Friday night it was really really bad, just running out of his ear. So mommy called and got Dylan the first apt on Saturday. We got right in there and yep, Dylan's first ear infection since he got tubes about 19 months ago. But thankfully the tubes were doing their job and helping the infection to run out versus build up behind the ear drum. So Dylan is on an antibiotic and continuing the drops. Thankfully his ear is starting to heal and he is feeling much better, it is no longer sore to touch.
We continued the morning by relaxing at home and watching Hawkeye football. This is a Saturday tradition in our house and Dylan gets right into the game. He gives daddy pounds when the Hawks make a big play and big high - fives when they score a touchdown. The game was a little gruesome until the Hawks turned the game around in the Fourth Quarter. Grandpa Kinney was sending us text messages during the game letting us know how the Hawkeye fans were actually reacting during the game in the stands, it wasn't pretty but when they turned the game around the crowd was wild! Dylan was thankfully napping during the worst part of the game and awoke just as things turned around and the Hawkeye's pulled out a victory! They are 9-0 for the season and the first time in school History!
Late in the afternoon the kids got dressed in their Halloween Costumes and we headed off for some Halloween fun with family. We ventured over to our cousins the Aarhus' to celebrate Aunt Ellie's Halloween Birthday, Uncle Bill's Retirement from the Railroad and Halloween! Dylan was dressed in his Dinosaur costume and Danielle as an 'Adorable' Witch! It was pretty chilly outside so under Dylan's costume he was bundled up with fleece lined jeans, onsie, turtleneck, coat and hat, he was nice and toasty! His costume had a great head piece that served as an extra layer of warmth for his head and paws to cover his hands. We greeted cousins Morgan, Collin and Kyle and friend Savanah. Uncle Bill, Aunt Ellie, Kim, Kris, Andi and Tim and friends, Hal, Bob and Sheila. We had a great time. On the first round of trick or treating mommy, Ellie and Kim took Dylan out. He was a riot. The first house we came to was an older lady. I kept reminding Dylan what he needed to say when the lady would answer the door, he knew to say trick or treat.
Well the lady came to the door and said, 'oh my don't you look so cute in your costume...' Dylan looked up and said, 'Hi Grandma'! He tends to do this to gray haired lady's he sees. It was hilarious. Then I asked Dylan what he needed to say, his response was, 'trick or treat, surprise!' Again we just laughed and laughed. The lady got such a kick out of him, my face was bright red in embarrassment and joy at watching our son with his first real Halloween experience. Ellie and Kim looked on, taking pictures and laughing along with me!
We went to several houses on a couple of streets. Dylan walked like a big boy and each time he went to the door he remembered to say, 'trick or treat'. We ventured back to let Daddy take Dylan out for some trick or treating as well. They made it out and only to a few houses before Dylan tuckered out and started to say, 'Daddy carry you'. That is what he says when he wants us to carry him and he gets tired. So they ventured back to the house. But daddy got to experience the cuteness also of Dylan on Halloween going door to door! Quite a few people commented on his costume and what a cutie our son was all dressed up in his dinosaur costume. Dylan got lots of candy in his bag and even a Capri Sun drink box!
Back at the Aarhus house we ate lots of goodies and the kids played and played with Dylan. He has such a fun time playing with his cousins and especially Collin. Dylan just loves him dearly and talks about him non-stop at home. The older cousins are very good with Dylan and they always give him lots of toys and attention. He loves that the most I think! Later in the evening Kris busted out his guitar and Hal his bongo drum and they were playing all kinds of music. The kids were putting in their requests, the top request was 'The Climb' by Miley Cirus. Everyone was singing along and Dylan came running out of where he was playing and wanted to join in on the music sing-a-long. He was helping Hal play the drum and just loving it. Too cute for words.
We also watched Ellie open all of her Halloween Birthday gifts and ate birthday cake and ice cream. Her cake was SO neat, and decorated for Halloween of course!
This Halloween was very memorable for our family. Celebrated with great family and friends. Halloween has become a tradition trick or treating at the Aarhus house and celebrating Ellie's Halloween birthday. We have many many memories over the years and are so happy that our children are now making those memories with us.
Happy Halloween Dylan and Happy Halloween Birthday Aunt Ellie!~
